This is a list of endangered species. They list over 20,000 organisms. Species extinction is happening now at a faster rate that when the dinosaurs disappeared.
What kind of effect does it have on the ecosystem when a species becomes extinct? Will any significant changes occur rapidly, or will they happen over time? Are humans the greatest reason for extinction now?
I know I'm a little late, but just for future reference, what were we supposed to do for the 'create your own endangered species act' for the illegal trade bio project? I was super confused on that part.
Basically you were supposed to write your own law. How would you protect the endangered species?
As far as the effect of a species going extinct, the loss of biodiversity can have numerous effects. For example as the rainforest is cut down, many plants have gone extinct; who is to say that one of those now extinct plants may have been the key to the cure for cancer, we will never know. Other species could have large effects on their ecosystems. If beavers went extinct entire ecosystems could wash away with their dams.
